Fantastic server.
  1. One of HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 running with 80 Gb Ram with Intel (R) Xeon (R) CPU E5-2697 v2 @ 2.70GHz We want to make server ram and double as what we got ATM. There are only 2 blank slots left for processor one. Can I use empty memory slots that has been assigned for Processor 2 to upgrade entire server memory?
  2. HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 Server unique options Technical specifications Part description SKU HP 380/385 Gen8 8-SFF Cage/Backplane Kit (Additional 8 SFF Hard Drive Cage, allowing for up to 16 SFF Drive Bays) 662883-B21 HP DL380/385GN 3 slot PCIe Riser Kit (Additional PCIe Gen3 Riser Card quantity 1x16, 1x8, 1x4 for up to 6 total PCIe slots.

I personally love this server. It has way quieter than my previous servers and most energy efficient. I had the great opportunity to have this both in my work environment and one that was being tossed in my home lab environment.

What are the pros?

- DDR3 Memory and Xeon E5-2600 series give a major energy efficiency savings over previous generations.
- Ton of RAM slots to make this a compute beast.
- Love me some iLO for management of the machine.
- Plenty of room for upgrading RAM and CPU from the baseline.

What are the cons?

- Baseline came with low CPU count processors
- Baseline has a only 8 SFF drive slots.
- Newer shorter SFF drive trays meant my extra SFF trays from previous generations were no longer compatible.
